Is the Monmouth County Historical Association a government agency?

No. While a portion of our annual income comes from generous support via grants by both the New Jersey Historical Commission and Monmouth County, we are a stand alone 501(c)(3) non-profit entity and as such maintain our own Board of Trustees along with fiduciary responsibility to raise the funds needed on an annual basis to meet the mission of the Association.

Is there a Museum?

Indeed there is! Within our Headquarters at 70 Court Street in Freehold Borough, portions of our first two floors are maintained as museum galleries for one or more exhibitions at any one time. Please visit our exhibitions page for more information on what is currently available to experience at the Museum.

Is MCHA a membership organization?

Not only is MCHA a membership organization, our membership is crucial to our livelihood. Our membership provides a critical source of underwriting through their fees and they are often our best visitors and volunteers. Not to sound too much like some famous advertising taglines, but membership at MCHA does have its perks. Please visit our membership page to learn more about the benefit of joining MCHA.

Do you have volunteer opportunities?

Our organization is only as good as our volunteers. Volunteerism provides the backbone of the Association’s daily work, particularly with docent services at the Museum and historic houses along with research and upkeep in the research library & archives. Please visit our Volunteers page for more information.

Can I do research on my family?

Through our research library & archives patrons are welcome to either come and research themselves during Museum hours or send an online request and ask our library assistants and volunteers to help.

Is my gift to MCHA a charitable donation?

As a registered 501(c)(3), gifts made to the Monmouth Country Historical Association are tax-deductible.

Is history still relevant?

More than ever, History is relevant. Please click here to learn about the History Relevance campaign of which MCHA is a member.
