Federal and State Censuses and Indices

Federal censuses have been taken every ten years, starting in1790. The New Jersey census are good to use with the Federal census. The 1885-1895 New Jersey are valuable where there is no 1890 Federal census available. The 1905-1915 New Jersey are good to use for the later years, especially for birthdate, birthplace, and parents' birthplace.

For information dating earlier than census records, or to supplement census information, see also Monmouth County Tax Ratables and Abstracts.
